SEAN W COOK

Law Firm

About Sean W. Cook

After graduating from law school and initially working for two years as an attorney in civil defense, Sean chose to pursue his professional and personal passion and represent individual plaintiffs, with a focus in employment law.

Sean’s employment practice has included successful representation of (for example and without limitation) fast-food workers; neurosurgeons and other physicians; coal miners; university administrators/vice-presidents; police officers; fellow lawyers; sales representatives; and nearly every segment of the workforce.

Sean has achieved millions of dollars in compensation for his individual clients in tough cases against powerful defendants that many lawyers would not pursue.  Such cases include:

  • Successful resolution and representation of employees who were sexually harassed and racially discriminated against by the former Chairman of the WVU Department of Neurosurgery;

  • Successful resolution on behalf of state employees terminated for reporting and refusing to participate in wasteful spending of state funds; and

  • Successful representation under the W. Va. Patient Safety Act of multiple healthcare workers retaliated against for reporting patient safety concerns.

Sean’s plaintiff’s practice expands beyond the workplace, and also focuses on civil rights cases (including constitutional claims for police and prison brutality), consumer law, Title IX, FOIA, HIPAA, school bullying, and breach of contract cases.

Sean is an active member of the National Employments Lawyer’s Association and the West Virginia Employment Lawyer’s Association.

To allow for more flexibility in choosing which cases to pursue, Sean established his solo practice in 2020.
